Čvrsnica Mountain stands proudly as one of the largest mountains in Bosnia and Herzegovina, boasting an impressive collection of 15 peaks soaring above 2000 meters. Nestled in the northern part of Herzegovina, on the right bank of the Neretva River, Čvrsnica finds its home within the Blidinje Nature Park, offering a haven for nature enthusiasts and outdoor lovers.

Geographical Highlights

The mountain is embraced by the Neretva River to the east, while its northern and southern boundaries are formed by the Doljanka and Drežanka rivers, respectively.

The dramatic 1500-meter-deep canyon of Diva Grabovica carves through the heart of the mountain, extending 6.2 kilometers towards the Neretva. To the northwest lies the rift valley of Dugo Polje, creating a distinct separation between Čvrsnica and the Vran Mountain.

Massif and Plateaus

Čvrsnica’s massif is characterized by mountain ridges such as Velika Čvrsnica and Vilinac, along with plateaus like Velika Čvrsnica, Muarnica, Plasa, and Mala Čvrsnica.

The elevation of Čvrsnica Mountain ranges from around 200 meters at its base to a towering 2,228 meters at its highest point, Pločno.

As the fourth highest summit in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Pločno follows Maglić (2,386 m), Volujak (2,336 m), and Velika Ljubušnja (2,238 m).

This rocky peak hosts a telecommunication facility with a permanent military presence.

Beyond the majestic Pločno peak, additional summits elevate above the 2000-meter mark: Draga Kosa (2217 m), Kapci (2156 m), Ploča (2040 m), and Veliki Vilinac (2113 m)…

Protected Beauty

Within the embrace of the Blidinje Nature Park, Čvrsnica is safeguarded, ensuring the preservation of its rich biodiversity.

The unique geomorphological feature known as Hajdučka Vrata, or Mijatov Prolaz, is standing at an altitude of 2000 meters, and is a natural wonder that adds a touch of mystique to the already enchanting landscape.
