Fojnica’s history is steeped in tradition, centered around the Franciscan Monastery dating back to the early 14th century. Within its walls lies a captivating museum home to the historic Fojnica Ahdnama, an Ottoman-era charter ensuring safety and freedom for Bosnian Franciscans.

The town also boasts the historic Atik Mosque, which has stood for there from 1551.

Prokoško Lake, perched 22 kilometers from Fojnica on Mount Vranica, offers a glacial paradise at 1636 meters above sea level. The area surrounding the lake teems with unique flora and fauna, including the Triton amphibian.

The Vranica Mountains, remnants of the Paleozoic era, offer gentle meadows and abundant high-altitude water sources. They are renowned for their mineral wealth, making Vranica the most famous mining mountain in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The quaint settlement of Bakovići near Fojnica was once globally renowned until 1939 for housing one of the largest gold and silver deposits in this part of Europe.

Fojnica’s culinary heritage is equally famous, featuring delectable pies, the renowned Fojnica maglice pastry, and exceptional cow and sheep cheeses.

In winter, Fojnica transforms into a skiing spot on Mount Vranica, Brusnica.
