Romanija Mountain | Planina Romanija

Romanija Mountain is a beautiful mountain range located in the eastern part of Bosnia & Herzegovina, near the cities of Sarajevo, Sokolac, and Pale. It is known for its stunning natural beauty, rich history, and cultural heritage.

The mountain range is approximately 60 kilometers long, and its highest peak, Veliki Prijeslop, stands at 1657 meters above sea level. The mountain is covered in dense forests of beech, spruce, and fir trees, and is home to many rare species of plants and animals.

In addition to its natural beauty, Romanija is also known for its historical and cultural sites. The most famous of these is the Monastery of Treskavica, which was built in the 13th century and is one of the most important monasteries in the country. Other notable sites include the medieval fortress of Sokol, the necropolis of stecci, and the memorial complex of Sutjeska.

Romanija is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts, offering many opportunities for hiking, skiing, and camping. The mountain has several well-marked hiking trails, including a section of the Via Dinarica trail, which runs through Bosnia and Herzegovina. During the winter months, visitors can enjoy skiing and snowboarding at the Jahorina ski resort, which is located on the southern slopes of Romanija.
