Nestled at the confluence of the Pliva and Vrbas rivers, Jajce is a stunning town in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Once a royal city, it is now an open-air museum, where the Pliva River dramatically cascades 21 meters into the Vrbas, creating a breathtaking waterfall.

Jajce’s rich history dates back to prehistoric times, with significant Roman artifacts revealing a once-thriving settlement. Among the town’s historic treasures is the 3rd or 4th-century Temple of Mithras, located near the medieval city walls. The first recorded mention of Jajce dates back to 1396, marking its long-standing significance.

The Fortress

Perched at 470 meters above sea level, the Fortress offers a panoramic view of Jajce and its medieval architecture. With origins in the 13th century, it features the royal coat of arms and various historical structures, including the Barutana and water reservoirs from the Austro-Hungarian period.

Catacombs

Carved in the late 14th century, these underground tombs were commissioned by Duke Hrvoje Vukčić Hrvatinić. Featuring Romanesque and Gothic elements, the catacombs are a unique historical site.

St. Mary’s Church (Fethija)
