…largest Orthodox church in Bosnia and Herzegovina…
Hram Svetog Save, the Church of Saint Sava, stands as the largest Orthodox church in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Located in the picturesque town of Foča, this magnificent structure is a must-visit for anyone interested in cultural and spiritual heritage.
Spanning 50 meters in length and soaring over 30 meters high, Hram Svetog Save covers an area of 1,500 square meters.
Designed in the traditional Serbian-Byzantine style, the church features five stunning domes and an interior adorned with elaborate frescoes and icons.
The church’s chandelier, boasting 135 light bulbs, adds to the grandeur of the interior.
Built between 1998 and 2000, the church was constructed on the site of an older church destroyed during World War II. It symbolizes the resilience and enduring faith of the Serbian Orthodox community in the region.
Beyond its architectural beauty, Hram Svetog Save serves as a vibrant community center. It hosts regular services, religious celebrations, and cultural events, including the annual feast day of Saint Sava on January 27th.
