Bregava is a Herzegovinian beauty that springs near the town of Stolac. It has a length of about 31 km, which ends at another one of our beauties, the Neretva river. The most exciting part of paddling the Bregava is directly below the source where, unfortunately, the hydropower plant is located, all the way to the large waterfall of Provalija in the heart of the town of Stolac.
The Bregava River is a real treat for rowers who have had enough of cold canyons, rainy weather, permanent karsts and rock formations. Bregava flows through the city of the Sun, and it is a sunny river itself because it passes through a tame forest of fig trees, always adjusting its course so that the sun warms us. It is a real treat to paddle past the trees of this delicious fruit. The luckiest are also rewarded with a couple of fallen fruits in the canoe.
Not only its shores are decorated, because Bregavu is also decorated with the small Pijene waterfall, which is located just before the large Provalija waterfall. The small waterfall is about 4 m high and can be crossed with a kayak/canoe. The adventure ends just above the Great Waterfall in the center of Stolac, but leaves the paddler the opportunity to swim and enjoy the environment of pure nature. Recommended boats for descent are: PK (inflatable kayak/canoe), hard hull kayak.
The best period for paddling the Bregava River is: March, April, May, October and November. When creating the map of the Bregava river, the water level at HS Stolac was 68 cm. You can check the water level on the Bregava River at link.
