Created in 1972, this artificial lake was formed by flooding the Buško Blato area, where the Ričina River once flowed, to supply water for hydroelectric power plants along the Cetina River in Croatia.

Covering an area of 56 square kilometers, Buško Lake can hold up to 800 million cubic meters of water, making it the largest reservoir in Southeast Europe.

Buško Lake is a haven for fishing enthusiasts, boasting a rich diversity of fish species. The lake is home to 12 known species, including four endemic species from the Cyprinidae family: Aulopyge hugelii, Phoxinellus alepidotus, Chondrostoma phoxinus, and Squalius tenellus. In addition, the lake hosts introduced species such as Brown Trout (Salmo trutta), Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), and Adriatic Sea Trout (Salmo farioides).
