The most famous excursion site in Banja Luka, Banj Brdo, also known as Šehitluci, is located on the southern side of the city and stands at an elevation of 431 meters above sea level, offering a panoramic view of the city.
The excursion site is rich in forests, walking and hiking trails, drinking water springs, as well as designated areas for rest and recreation.
It is also home to the memorial monument dedicated to the fallen fighters of Krajina in the People’s Liberation Struggle, created by the renowned Yugoslav sculptor Antun Augustinčić.
The monument features a relief depicting a series of images depicting the struggle and suffering of the people from Krajina during World War II, while symbolically resembling a bullet fired towards Krajina.
