Experience Sevdalinka in Sarajevo: Damir Imamović Live at Svrzo’s House
In late 2024, sevdalinka—the soulful, traditional urban folk song of Bosnia and Herzegovina—was officially inscribed on UNESCO’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. To celebrate this musical gem, a unique concert series will take place throughout summer 2025 at Svrzo’s House, one of Sarajevo’s most iconic Ottoman-era landmarks.
Every Wednesday in July and August, visitors will have the rare opportunity to enjoy intimate live performances by Damir Imamović, the country’s most acclaimed modern sevdah artist. A 2021 winner of the “Best European World Music Artist” award, Damir comes from a family deeply rooted in the tradition of sevdah, and is known for blending authenticity with contemporary expression.
Svrzo’s House, a beautifully preserved national monument, offers the perfect setting for these concerts. In the courtyards of homes like this, centuries ago, young women once sang sevdalinkas to their beloveds—songs of longing, love, and sorrow.
Some performances will also feature renowned guest musicians from Bosnia and the region, making each evening a special experience.
